Before we get into winter maintenance, please see the above PDF and feel free to download and use to drain your drum drips. Draining the drum drips of dry systems will help protect your system from freezing temps.

As we head into the winter months, it's important to take care of your fire sprinkler system to prevent any potential issues. Before we get into the basics of maintenance, let's talk about why it's so crucial.

Reliability: Regular maintenance ensures that your fire sprinkler system will work properly in case of a fire. It checks that every part is working as it should, reducing the chances of a malfunction when you need it most.

Savings: Investing in preventative maintenance can save you money in the long run. Catching and fixing small issues early on prevents them from turning into expensive repairs or replacements later on.

Lifespan: Well-maintained fire sprinkler systems last much longer, meaning you won't have to replace them as often.

DON'T LET YOUR FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM PIPES FREEZE! When temperatures drop - especially below zero - it's important to protect your sprinkler systems & pipes.

Proper maintenance will protect your system from freezing temperatures that could cause pipes to burst and damage your property. Here are a few things you should take care of before the freezing temperatures hit:

  1. First thing's first: Give your fire sprinkler system a good once-over. Check for any damage, leaks, or corrosion. If you spot any issues, make sure to fix them right away.

  1. Confirm that Riser Rooms are adequately heated; seal off drafts and ensure all heating systems are working. Insulated wrap can help with pipes in areas exposed to lower temperatures.

  1. Wet Pipe Sprinkler Systems: The area needs to be heated to 40 degrees to protect your system's reliability.

  1. Dry Pipe Sprinkler Systems: Drain all low point drains to prevent freezing. For more info on draining low point drains see our video.

  2. If your system needs antifreeze, make sure it's been inspected within the past year. If the freezing point is getting close to freezing, it's time to replace it with antifreeze made specifically for fire sprinkler systems.
